Travel Information

Dortmund is well connected by train, public transportation, and several nearby airports. The workshop is currently planned to take place at Dortmunder U, close to Dortmund city center and Dortmund Central Station.

Arriving by Train

Dortmund Central Station (Dortmund Hauptbahnhof) is the main railway station for participants arriving by train. It is served by regional and long-distance connections from many cities in Germany and neighboring countries.

Please check current connections, service updates, and platform information before traveling.

Arriving by Air

Düsseldorf Airport (DUS)

Düsseldorf Airport is a convenient option for international participants traveling to Dortmund.

The SkyTrain connects the airport terminals with Düsseldorf Airport railway station within a few minutes. From there, regular regional and long-distance train connections are available to Dortmund Central Station.

Depending on the selected connection, the train journey typically takes around 50 minutes. Participants should check the exact route and travel time for their specific arrival date.

Frankfurt Airport (FRA)

Frankfurt Airport is a major international aviation hub with its own long-distance railway station.

ICE connections are available from Frankfurt Airport long-distance station to Dortmund Central Station. Depending on the connection and any required transfers, the journey usually takes approximately two to two and a half hours.

Dortmund Airport (DTM)

Dortmund Airport is the closest airport to the city and may be a suitable option when convenient direct flights are available. However, it offers a smaller range of connections than Düsseldorf and Frankfurt airports.

The AirportExpress connects Dortmund Airport directly with Dortmund Central Station. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes.

From Dortmund Central Station to the Planned Venue

The planned venue, Dortmunder U, is located close to Dortmund Central Station.
Participants can reach the venue by walking, public transport, or taxi.

Detailed directions and a venue map will be provided on the Venue page once the venue has been confirmed.

Tickets and Public Transportation

Dortmund has an extensive public transportation network that includes light rail, buses, S-Bahn trains, and regional trains. Local services are operated within the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR) transportation network.

Participants should distinguish between local and regional transportation and long-distance rail services when selecting a ticket.

VRR tickets are valid on eligible local and regional services within the selected fare area. The Deutschlandticket is generally valid throughout Germany on local public transportation and regional services, including buses, light rail, S-Bahn, RB, and RE trains in second class.

The Deutschlandticket is not generally valid on long-distance services such as ICE, IC, or EC trains. A separate long-distance ticket is required for these services.

Some Deutsche Bahn long-distance tickets include a City-Ticket or offer it as an additional option. A City-Ticket allows passengers to use eligible local public transportation to or from the long-distance railway station within the specified area. Participants should check whether a City-Ticket is shown on their ticket.

For current local connections and ticket information, participants should consult the official services provided by Deutsche Bahn, DSW21, or VRR.

Arriving by Car and Parking

Participants arriving by car should check parking options near the planned venue in advance, as parking in Dortmund city center may be limited.

If the workshop takes place at Dortmunder U, nearby options include parking facilities at Brinkhoffstraße, Schmiedingstraße, and Dortmund Central Station.

Travel Planning

Participants are encouraged to check their complete journey shortly before traveling, as schedules, platforms, and connections may change.

Guests arriving by air should allow sufficient time between landing, baggage claim, transfers within the airport, and onward travel by train or bus.
